Frequently Asked Questions
We tried to think of all the things we wish we knew before attending a wedding but if we didn't cover something, contact us!
Children
To allow all wedding guests, including parents, a weekend of relaxation and uninhibited revelry, we respectfully ask that no children under the age of 10 attend. The hall, surrounding gardens & lake are beautiful but not really suitable for children.
Dress Code
Summer in picturesque Somerset is usually lovely and warm. Temperatures in July will rise to around 25°C / 77°F and drop down to around 14°C / 57°F at night, so please be prepared. Clevedon overlooks the Bristol Channel (you can see all the way to "sunny" Wales), so there is a good chance of a breeze. Layers, sunglasses and of course umbrellas are always a good idea in jolly old England.
Friday
Smart casual (think: dressy jeans, polos/button downs, sundresses, sandals)
Saturday
Cocktail attire
- men, think: suit (not a tux) of any color and tie/bowtie preferred.
- women, think: cocktail dress, dressier sundress, dressy pants or jumpsuits. Women in England generally do not wear all black to weddings. Bright colors, patterns, and prints are welcome and encouraged.
On the big day, weather permitting, the ceremony will be held outside in the gardens around Clevedon Hall. Cocktails & canapes (and shenanigans) will also be outside until we retire inside for dinner and dancing later in the day. If the weather does not cooperate, Elena will murder Oliver for being born a Brit and the festivities will all be held inside. The Hall is ready for this eventuality and space is not an issue.
Sunday
If you showed up for lunch in your pajamas, we'd be happy to see you made it out of bed!
Hats
If you don’t know of Elena's love for British hats & fascinators then you don’t truly know her! Eagle eyed browsers would have noticed the photo of Elena at the top of this page involves a hat. If you've no idea about such things, have a look here for inspiration.
For those of you close to New York, Elena buys her hats from Lisa Shaub. Lisa is lovely and honestly, trying on hats is rather fun.
But in all seriousness - if hats are your thing, wear them. If not, don’t.
Food
Please let us know about any dietary requirements when completing your RSVP.
Smoking
You can only smoke in the designated smoking areas outside.
There is strictly, 100%, avoid a furious bride and groom situation, NO SMOKING OF ANY KIND (vaping and e-cigarettes included) inside ANY part of Clevedon Hall. The Hall is a public space and therefore smoking is banned inside any part of it.
For those of you who enjoy smoking substances other than tobacco, we ask that you take the short walk off the premises in order to do so. Please keep in mind it’s still illegal in the UK and we don’t need or want anything ruining the weekend.
